A new classified advertising site is set to make the largest online donation to environmental awareness. Free Classifieds, based in Eastbourne in the UK, is a unique site which encourages buyers and sellers to get together by posting their pictures online along with the items they are selling. But what has set the site apart is its pledge to donate half of all its proceeds to Greenpeace’s research into saving the environment. On the site, its organisers say: “The use of Toxic chemicals all over the world threaten our rivers and lakes, our air, land, and oceans, and ultimately ourselves and our future. Yet, the world's chemical industries continue to produce and release thousands of chemical compounds every year - pumping deadly poison into our environment. Sealing our fate and the fate of our children. “Free Classifieds will be donating half of its proceeds (that's 50 per cent of everything we make) to Greenpeace's research into eliminating toxic chemicals. When you look at it in perspective, 50 per cent isn't much when the fate of the planet is concerned. But it’s a start.” A spokesman for Free Classifieds said: “We took this decision because, like a lot of people, we are seriously concerned at the way things are going with our planet. In the past we more or less ignored all the warning signs and now, it looks like, unless we do something quickly, we’re going to be paying the price for our apathy. “We are a new site but word is already spreading that we are offering something different to people interested in classified advertising. We know that our pledge of 50 percent will spur others on to do something to help save our planet.” Organisers are looking for 1 million users by the end. With fees calculated to earn over £6 million during that period, the sites offer could be the largest online donation ever made. Visit: http://www.freeclassifiedswebsite.com |
